Watch For Insects And Rodents When Unpacking Your Christmas Decorations

The time is upon us to make that dust filled trek up into the attic again.  All of your winter wardrobe and holiday decorations are in a jumbled heap of boxes up there, and it is time to dig them out again.  The last thing that you want to happen is to open a box looking for your favorite sweater and discover a mouse jumping out at you instead.  Many native Missouri pests find their way into our storage areas, including spiders, mice, rats, and other rodents and pests.

To avoid releasing pests into your home, unpack boxes outside.  Shake out all decorations, and carefully inspect them before bringing them into the house.  The same applies to any Christmas trees or wreaths.  Wash all unpacked clothes, and dry them on high heat to kill any hiding bugs and eggs.  When you are putting stuff away at the end of the season, we recommend packing everything in sealable and chew-proof plastic containers

Holiday time is also time for lots of baking.  This also attracts many pests into our homes.  Here in Missouri the most common pests to watch for in the kitchen are ants, beetles, cockroaches, and the Indian meal moth.  Quickly clean up any messes that are made to avoid drawing in these kitchen scavengers.

Here at Rottler Pest and Lawn Solutions, we understand that these pests can be quite a nuisance, not to mention posing some health risks.  That is why we have been providing high quality, family owned pest control services to Saint Louis and all of Mid-Missouri since 1956.  Call us today, or contact us online to schedule your free home inspection.
