As the summer comes to an end, we seem to be getting a lot of inquiries about mole control. People have been seeing the damage that moles have done to their lawn and are looking for St. Louis pest control services as well as lawn care to repair the damages. Here are just a few of the frequently asked questions we’ve received in regards to moles.
Q: What are the signs of moles?
A: Signs of moles include tunnels in your lawn, mole hills and even some plant damage. Tunnels can be obvious by the slightly raised ground above them, or the depressions created in your lawn when these tunnels collapse. Mole hills are areas where moles have surfaced in your lawn and appear like small mounds of soil on top of the grass (like little volcanoes!). Plant damage may occur when mole tunnels and hills disrupt root growth, or when moles dig for their food around the roots of plants, causing the roots to be disconnected from these plants.
Q: Do moles have eyes?
A: Yes, moles do have eyes, but they are not very visible! They are basically thin membranes located behind their snouts; these eyes aren’t capable of much sight but can sense light.
Q: Do moles hibernate?
A: In fact, moles do not hibernate. But they may follow their source of food (the earthworm, among other grubs and insects) deeper into the ground during the colder months of the year, which may make them less obvious. Moles cannot hibernate, because they don’t have the ability to store fat or food.
Q: How do I get rid of lawn moles?
A: These pests are tough to locate because they live underground, which makes it difficult to recognize the full extent of the problem. To get rid of moles, we can offer you exceptional mole control services. Because it can be challenging to eliminate these pests on your own, our experienced pest management professionals will evaluate your mole problem with an inspection and then begin treatments to eliminate the initial mole infestation. Once the initial problem is taken care of, our mole program offers maintenance services every other month to ensure that no new mole activity is present.
