If you think of ants when we say spring then you are not alone. Ants are one of the most common springtime pests and although they tend to be most active during the spring, they can be active throughout the entire year. There are many different types of ants but only a few pose a problem to St. Louis and Mid-Missouri homeowners.
With ants being such a high alert pest right now, we thought this would be a good time to share some tips for homeowners to help prevent ant infestations. Keep in mind that ants are very sneaky and with their tiny bodies, they can find their way inside even through the smallest of cracks and holes. Never the less, these tips should at least help in your pest-proofing endeavors this spring.
Replace any broken or torn screens around the home.
Seal off cracks, holes and other gaps along the foundation, windows and doors.
Trim back any trees or bushes that are touching the side of the home or even the roof.
Fix leaky pipes and appliances and pay attention to how well water drains away from your home.
Keep trash in bins with tight closing lids.
Take the trash out of the home on a regular basis.
Pull out kitchen appliances to remove built up grease and debris.
Store all open food in containers with tight closing lids.
Keep the kitchen clear of any crumbs or other food debris.
Do not leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight or for extended periods of time.
