I don’t think that there is any denying that, as far as looks are concerned, raccoons are near the top of the cute list. I mean, those tiny little fingers that can grip a scrap of bread or a discarded piece of fruit and hold it to their tiny little mouths for a nibble. And how about the way they chew. Isn’t it the cutest? Oh, and how about those cute little-masked faces! Have you ever seen anything more adorable? If aggravation or danger were based on looks – well, you would never consider raccoons a threat which would prove to be a huge mistake.
Raccoons are destructive and dangerous, despite their good looks. They will destroy your garden and help themselves to your trash cans. They will sometimes even be able to open tight fitting lids by using their little thumbs. There is nothing quite as aggravating as walking out your door in the morning to grab the newspaper only to find that your trash has been carelessly strewn all across your yard by these tiny little bandits. And that mess pales in comparison to when they find a way into your attic or basement. Once inside, they will chew on wires and insulation; and they will use your most treasured possessions to line their dens. Their potty manners leave a lot to be desired as well.
Although it is true that raccoons are furiously destructive little creatures in and around your home, it is not the biggest problem with raccoons. These little pests are actually a danger to you, your family, and your pets. Not only do they harbor parasites like fleas, ticks, mites, and lice which carry and spread a myriad of dangerous pathogens; but they also are known carriers of rabies. This debilitating and deadly disease is not something that you want to ever have to deal with and all it takes to have to go through the very painful medical procedure for exposure to rabies is a scratch or a bite from an infected raccoon. And this is a very likely outcome for you if you decide to deal with that raccoon on your own. Once you corner that poor, scared little woodland creature, all bets are off. You are most probably going to come away from the incident bruised, battered, and even bloody.
This is why dealing with raccoons that have invaded your space should be left up to the wildlife control experts here at Rottler Pest & Lawn Solutions.
