At Rottler Pest & Lawn Solutions, we know that part of summer is spent maintaining your lawn and your landscape. To keep your lawn and landscape lush and healthy during the summer, you don’t need to spend every single day out in the yard working through the hot weather, but you do need to spend some of your time maintaining your landscape to keep it looking beautiful. Here are a few tips from the St. Louis lawn care specialists at Rottler for maintaining a healthy landscape this summer.
Keep your lawn watered. Of course, how much or how little you water your lawn will be dependent upon the weather. If the temps are soaring for days on end, you may need to water your lawn daily, especially if we’re having a dry summer. If you see that your lawn is wilting, appears curled up or doesn’t bounce back after being walked on, then your lawn isn’t getting enough water and you should consider increasing the frequency of your watering. We always suggest giving your lawn a deep water before sunrise, but don’t over-water or you could encourage fungus growth.
Mow your lawn frequently and at a high setting. Grass should still be 2 to 3 inches high after mowing. Doing this will allow your grass to absorb more water, grow deeper roots and it will lessen the possibility of weeds spreading across your lawn.
When you mow, it’s ok to leave lawn clippings on the lawn. They will decompose quickly, adding necessary nutrients into your grass. This is a natural way to fertilize your lawn!
Keep an eye on the possible presence of moles or lawn rodents. These pests can make a real mess out of your lawn with their burrowing and their soil mounds.
If all of this seems like a lot of work (which it is!), hire a lawn care company to take care of your lawn this summer.
