LED CHRISTMAS LIGHTS VS. INCANDESCENT CHRISTMAS LIGHTS:

In the past, incandescent Christmas lights have been the norm.  With the growing trend of “going green”, LED lights have become a popular, energy-efficient alternative to traditional incandescents. 

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode.  An LED light bulb is a semiconductor device that emits visible light when an electric current passes through it, without relying on a filament to produce light.  The advantages to LED Christmas lights over traditional incandescent Christmas lights are many—so check out these great reasons to upgrade your holiday display to include LED Christmas lights this year!

LED Christmas lights…

…are more energy efficient: LED Christmas lights use about 1/10th of the electricity consumed by incandescent lights. Because the filaments in incandescent bulbs must be warmed in order to produce light, the bulbs waste a fair amount of energy generating heat instead of focusing on producing light. LED Christmas lights, on the other hand, do not have filaments and generate very little heat.

…require less power: LED Mini Christmas lights use 90% less power than traditional incandescent Christmas lights.  You can have up to 32,000 LED mini lights—that’s 320 strands of 100 bulbs each—on one circuit breaker (hooked together and plugged into a single electrical outlet), whereas you can only have 3,200 incandescent minis (32 strands of 100 bulbs each) on one circuit breaker.LED C-9 Christmas lights (these are the larger bulbs used for roof lighting, etc.) use 85% less power than traditional incandescent Christmas lights.  You can have up to 1,200 LED C-9 lights on one circuit breaker, while incandescent C-9 lights only allow you to have 200 lights plugged into a single circuit breaker.

…are safer: LED Christmas lights generate less heat, therefore reducing the risk of fire.

...have a longer life: LED Christmas lights last on average 10 times longer than standard incandescent lights—up to 200,000 hours! LED Christmas lights do not have filaments, which is the metallic part of incandescent bulbs that burns out or breaks easily.

…are more durable: LED bulbs are made of hard plastic instead of glass, making LED Christmas lights much harder to break. Traditional incandescent bulbs are made of glass and break much more easily, not to mention how the layer of colored paint on incandescent bulbs is prone to fading and flaking when exposed to weather.

…produce brighter colors: LED Christmas lights emit a brighter and more distinct color than their incandescent counterparts. Incandescent lights generally emit more subtle, yellow-tinted colors, which can sometimes have a faded appearance.
