It is possible to harm your lawn by watering too much! |
Now that the days are longer and the sun is shining brighter, it is important that your lawn is getting the care that it needs to stay healthy through the warm weather season. Although many homeowners know what needs to be done to keep grass healthy, such as watering, mowing, and protecting their lawn from pests, it is sometimes unclear about how to do such things. The lawn care experts at Rottler Pest & Lawn Solutions would like to share some tips with homeowners in St. Louis regarding summer lawn care.
1. Water less frequently
It is important to water your grass in order to keep it healthy. But it is also possible to cause more harm than good if you go too far with your watering efforts. The best way to keep a healthy lawn is to water the grass infrequent but deep. You want to be sure the water soaks deep into the soil but then has time to dry out before you attempt to water again. This will deter weeds from spreading and other problems, such as lawn fungus.
2. Mow grass regularly at a high setting
Although the sound of mowing less frequently sounds great, it will not be great for your lawn. The best method is to keep your grass at least three inches tall with the mower at a higher setting and then mowing more often. By keeping the grass taller you will be reducing the chance of weeds taking root and spreading across your lawn. Also, taller grass helps to hold moisture in, so even on hot summer days your lawn stays hydrated.
3. Protect your lawn from pests
Whether it is rodents, lawn fungus, or weeds, lawn pests can quickly create a disaster when it comes to a healthy looking yard. In order to stay free of any lawn pests, it is best to call in the St. Louis lawn care professionals for an inspection and treatment plan to keep your lawn free of even the worst lawn problems.
By following these summer lawn care tips you should be well on your way to the best looking lawn in St. Louis and Mid Missouri.
